Principal’s Welcome

Dear Visitor,

We are very proud of our school and our mission which is encapsulated in three words: “transforming life chances.” As an individual school we nurture habits of excellence in all aspects of school life – academic, creative, sporting and in responsible behaviour. This is why RGS is a happy, caring and exceptionally successful school. As the lead school in the Thinking Schools Academy Trust we have a shared commitment “to provide outstanding schools which have an ethos of excellence and high expectations; underpinned by the principles of a fully integrated thinking School.”

You will see that we are truly a 21st Century school, concerned not just with what our students learn, but with how they learn and how they grow in confidence, independence and critical thinking. Since our foundation in 1888, we have been committed to a pioneering curriculum, broadening opportunities for learners to access the most prestigious universities and the best careers. We continue to be at the leading edge of education. Our unique curriculum has accelerated opportunities to stretch and challenge, with two pathways being offered in the Sixth form: the IB Diploma and A Levels. We are an Advanced Thinking School accredited by Exeter University, driving our passion for learning.

The RGS is both a National Support School and a National Teaching School with the National College of Teaching and Leadership. This reflects our strengths and capacity to support other schools, train new and newly qualified teachers, deliver high quality professional training and development for all our staff and lead a thriving Teaching School Alliance of over 40 schools. This outstanding track record was also recognised by the DFE and we are now a registered sponsor for schools. Our cross phase Trust which was co-founded with All Faiths’ CC school is a successful and expanding Trust with more schools joining us in Medway and in Portsmouth.

Through our family of schools we do “transform the life chances” of all of our children and young people.

Yours sincerely
