Rochester Grammar School students achieve record results

These stunning results (a school average of 37.4, equivalent to 3A* and 1A grade at A level) show that all students should give the IB serious consideration, whatever their academic background. Viewed as a gold standard qualification in the UK and across the world, it is tried and tested, and takes our students to some incredible destinations for university. It truly transforms students’ life chances.

RGS Champions 2016

We are celebrating the successes of our incredible athletics squad. For the sixth consecutive year they have won the Districts Athletics Championships held at Medway Park. There were multiple fantastic individual performances and some excellent relays too. Our Year 9 relay team won in 53 seconds with a faster time than the Year 9 boys in the competition!

Our students are extremely proud to be part of such a legacy.

Cultural Fashion Show

On the 23rd June this year, Rochester’s first Cultural Fashion Show took place inspired by Multicultural Week at the Rochester Grammar School. Being an event of culture and diversity, students were able to represent themselves through fashion and style. There was a clear message maintained throughout this touching event: it was to be inclusive, representative and a celebration of all cultures within the school, particularly those marginalised from the world of fashion and the modelling industry.

RGS, a school "drenched in thinking"

In April 2016, RGS was successfully reaccredited as an Advanced Thinking School by the University of Exeter’s Cognitive Education Development Unit. The rigorous accreditation assessment process clearly highlighted the outstanding nature of teaching and learning across the school, where students are encouraged to think creatively and independently in innovative and engaging ways.

Principal’s Welcome

Dear Visitor,

We are very proud of our school and our mission which is encapsulated in three words: “transforming life chances.” As an individual school we nurture habits of excellence in all aspects of school life – academic, creative, sporting and in responsible behaviour. This is why RGS is a happy, caring and exceptionally successful school. As the lead school in the Thinking Schools Academy Trust we have a shared commitment “to provide outstanding schools which have an ethos of excellence and high expectations; underpinned by the principles of a fully integrated thinking School.”

You will see that we are truly a 21st Century school, concerned not just with what our students learn, but with how they learn and how they grow in confidence, independence and critical thinking. Since our foundation in 1888, we have been committed to a pioneering curriculum, broadening opportunities for learners to access the most prestigious universities and the best careers. We continue to be at the leading edge of education. Our unique curriculum has accelerated opportunities to stretch and challenge, with two pathways being offered in the Sixth form: the IB Diploma and A Levels. We are an Advanced Thinking School accredited by Exeter University, driving our passion for learning.

The RGS is both a National Support School and a National Teaching School with the National College of Teaching and Leadership. This reflects our strengths and capacity to support other schools, train new and newly qualified teachers, deliver high quality professional training and development for all our staff and lead a thriving Teaching School Alliance of over 40 schools. This outstanding track record was also recognised by the DFE and we are now a registered sponsor for schools. Our cross phase Trust which was co-founded with All Faiths’ CC school is a successful and expanding Trust with more schools joining us in Medway and in Portsmouth.

Through our family of schools we do “transform the life chances” of all of our children and young people.

Yours sincerely
